Last week was my daughters dance recital. The day started out really nice. Travis did not have to work, so he took the 3 girls with him to a friends house so he could get the oil changed in our boat and van. That left Grayson and I at home. I decided it was time to clean out the attics. It was a very successful morning, and I got both of our attics de-junked and organized. It was a great feeling, until I looked at the clock and realized that the morning was gone and it was almost time to leave for the dance recital (a 35 minute trip... this detail will come in handy in the latter part of this story). So, I called Travis urging him to get home quickly!! He did. I quickly put the girls in the tub (as they had been playing in mud and catching frogs while they were at their friends house) and had Travis made them a quick lunch, knowing that we had to rush out the door!! I had not had time to change, either. I did the girl's hair and makeup and put them in some cute summer dresses so that their costumes would not get spilled on while they were in the car. I quickly yelled to Travis to put everyone in the car while I quickly freshened up. I added hastily to remind me to grab the girls's comstumes. He said ok. I freshen up and grab a drink of water and see everyone sitting in the car waiting for me. I quickly run out to the car and off we go. It is 1:10. the show starts at 2:00. No problem. We are in good shape. We drive. Travis starts to feel tired, we pull over and I drive so he can nap (with Livee, who is getting a nap, thank goodness). We drive and arrive about 5 minutes away from our destination when I realize..... WE FORGOT THEIR COSTUMES!!!! What?!! Holy moly. It is 1:40 and I am 30 minutes from home and have NO COSTUMES for my girls!!! Yikes. Holy moly (again). What can I do? Flip a Ueee (I do love that I can do U-turns here in California, in Ohio they are ILLEGAL, it was a huge pain). So, I turn around and begin my drive back home, knowing that we are probably going to miss Cami's dance (she was in the first act), but hoping that we wouldn't. I am thankful that Olivia is asleep, this makes the drive easier for everyone! I calmly tell myself that no matter what happens, it will be ok. Travis continues to sleep and the kids are watching a show. If we miss Cami's number we will take her out for ice cream.... nothing can be done. So, I drive back home. I arrive home at 2:10, run inside and run back out to the car with costumes in hand. We begin the drive back to the recital. At least Travis and Livee are getting good naps. We make it to the recital at 2:45 and I am trying hard not to freak out or cry, but to stay calm and composed so that if we did miss Cami's number she won't think it is such a huge deal. But it is really hard for me not to cry. She has been working on this dance for the past 7 months and this is the first and only time her dad would see her perform it and she is soooooooo excited. So, I make it to the dressing room and discover that she still has 10 minutes until she is on stage!!! The girls from her class are just starting to gather in the back room. HURRAY. I am really trying hard not to cry now, because it was so stressful and I am so thankful that we made it.
The recital was so stinking cute. The first half of the recital was "Alice in Wonderland" and Cami's dance class was the flamingo's. It was really hilarious. The Red Queen and Alice came on stage with them and swung two of them like they were golf clubs. In the beginning, the girls had a hard time getting used to The Red Queen, they were really scared of her during practices! Cami loved being on stage and smiled and remembered most of her dance moves. It was so cute! They both did a super fabulous job. Livee came out on stage and stole the show. She smiled and waved (constantly) and still managed to perform her whole routine. She is a little star!!
