Anyone who knows me, knows that camping is not my favorite vacation. It probably ranks up there with my LEAST favorite vacation!! However, I always have a GREAT time with my family when we go. The Pro's (family time, camp fires, smores, hiking) outweigh the con's (no showers, cramped potty's, short naps due to high noise, and sleeping in an RV with 2 babies, 5 kids and a nanny). This year we went in the beginning of August and, wouldn't you know it, the forcast said RAIN and THUNDERSTORMS for our ENTIRE trip!! We did not cancel. We still went and we had a fabulous time. Despite the rain, we did manage to get one, very small, hike in. Nothing like our usual day long hikes with promises of cliff diving into a lake at the end of the hike. We did get a little use out of the canoes and kayaks that are a favorite with the kids.... we just had to really watch the sky and keep the trips super short so we weren't on the lake when lighting hit. We never really had more than an hour of dry time, but we did have a great time! Grandma planned lots of indoor activities for the kids (with 4 large RV's, they could still hang out with cousins) and whenever the weather was dry, we played outside. So, we had a wonderful time with family, but it was great to get home to showers, bedrooms for babies and warmth!!
The skies finally started to clear up the morning we left!
We drove our big red trusty van to Utah (the kid's favorite traveling vehicle) so we could tow a trailer. Our red van has always been so reliable (much more reliable than the other 2 new cars we have purchased after the van...)! We love it! However, on the way home from dropping off the RV the alternator went out on us. Thankfully, Travis's dad and my mom came to rescue us. The van was fixed by the end of the day. We were thankful that it went out AFTER we dropped off the RV and not while we were towing the massive trailer up or down Parleys Canyon.
