Redwood family vacation, Day 2

On the drive, we encountered all these Elk on the side of the road. So cool!

Day 2.

We decided to head to Stout Grove at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. However, our party-mobile A.K.A the big red van, was having some issues, so Travis and my dad went to try to find some sort of "hard to find" tube to repair a leak our van had!! They spent all morning trying to resolve the issue and by the time they had it fixed (thanks dad for helping) and lunch was eaten, it was 2:00... the kids didn't mind, the cabin was so fun they could play or relax. So, at 2:00 we headed out the door to Stout Grove. This was our favorite little hike (not really a hike, more like a 3/4 mile light walk). There were fallen trees everywhere that connected all over the floors. The kids raced around on fallen tree trunks, they got to see the roots of these big trees that had fallen, they played games- it was just a lot of light hearted fun.  We will definitely do this hike, again.  It is perfect for kids, and Max loved it, too. We let him get out of the backpack and run around. When we voted, this was the kids favorite spot of the trip. If we make it up there, again, we would make all of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park a whole day trip. There were so many trails and stops and interesting trees that we saw, but it was getting late and the kids were excited to get home and swim. But next time we will start earlier and do more there!! After Stout Grove, we headed home and all the kids jumped into the river and swam and played. It was a great day!!
